Consent Froms: Consent forms need to be kept for a minimum of three years after
the research has been completed. This is according to federal guidelines according
to Juliana Kyrk, 6 June 2005.
Protocol Renewals according to Juliana Kyrk, 6 June 2005:
- Final Report means that data collection has been completed and all
code lists and/or documents that link the data to subjects have been destroyed.
The consent form are retained, but they cannot be connected to the data. Some
grants may want to keep the project in data analysis for publication/verification
purposes (i.e., the researcher may need to go back and collect additional
data to substantiate some issue/conclusion, etc.).
- Data Analysis is when the researcher retains the subject key code
(i.e., researcher could idenify the subjects and recontact them for additional
data collection in the event the data shows trends that need to be clarified,
etc.) or the research remains active only for long-term follow-up. For example,
data collected in year one and the researcher needs to wait until 3 or 4 years
later to recontact subjects but in the meantime they are analyzing the data.
